John Minson Galt II graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1841. He was the son of Alexander D. Galt, M.D. and the grandson of John Minson Galt I, M.D. He was the superintendent of Eastern State Hospital, the first public hospital founded exclusively for the care of the mentally ill.
